BOI (Born on the Island) in Galveston because there was no hospital in Rosenberg where she grew up on a ranch with horses, cows, chickens and sometimes pigs. Her love of nature and the land has been part of her life as she helped start the New Century Garden Club in Rosenberg and was a member of Garden Clubs throughout her life. After graduating from The University of Texas she began a career of 25 years in education which included getting her masters and working as an Educational Diagnostian, Administrator. In 1998 after traveling to Paris and seeing the 9 foot water lilies painted by Monet, Joan was inspired to learn to paint and begain After retirement she and her husband (past President) Kent moved to land that had been in her family and built 4 cabins for guests to come for stays. The 9E Ranch Cabins have now been in business for 20 years! Kent and Joan still welcome guests to the 9E Ranch, care for a few Longhorns, horses and chickens.
I’m June 9, 2015 marks 8 years since Rotary E-Club of Central Texas was created. The club began as a flexible club for Rotarians in central Texas; as time has gone by, we have become a different version of an e club with members all over Texas, and Michigan, Rhode Island, Virginia, Florida and part time in Minnesota and New Mexico. It is challenging and exciting to see how we can learn and work together to do some mighty great things to make a true impact in our various communities and in the world. Our recently approved global grant is a real joy; only four clubs in our district are doing global grants and we are one of them. Only two clubs in the district are sponsoring Rotary Exchange Students and we are one of them.
Cheers for our 8th birthday!
