Audubon Chapters Drive Lights Out In Cities Across the Country
Light pollution has an outsize impact on migrating birds. When buildings use a lot of exterior lighting, it disorients the birds and causes them to crash. There is an easy solution to stopping these bird mortalities: Turn off non-essential lighting. According to Audubon’s Lights Out program, when you convince building owners, managers, and homeowners to turn off excess lighting during the months of bird migration, you are helping birds have a safe passage between their nesting and wintering grounds. Read more about how Audubon chapters convinced four cities to adopt Lights Out protocols during spring and fall migration.

4 Way Test speech contest for High School Students

The Rotary E-Club of Central Texas will be hosting a Four Way Test Speech contest for high school students on the evening of Thursday, May 12, 2022.  The Four Way Speech competition will be a virtual speech competition for students in grades 9 – 12 based sponsored by our Club with cash prizes ranging from $300 to $100.

The Four Way Test speech contest is based on Rotary’s Four Way Test of the things Rotarians think, say, and do. We open or close all of our meetings with these pillars of Rotary, and we apply this four way test to all of our decision making:  1.) Is it the truth? 2.) Is it fair to all concerned? 3.) Will it build goodwill and better friendships? and 4.) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Rotary e Club of Central Texas  would like to ask for you to select a faculty member who can generate interest from students at your school and to serve as our Club’s point of contact for distribution of sign up and consent forms.   Examples of faculty who could serve as our point of contact would be 1.) a faculty member in charge of a student service organization, 2.) an English teacher, or a 3.) Speech teacher.Attached you will find a Four Way Test Speech Contest Rules Form.  Our hope is that you can identify and let us know the name and e-mail of a faculty point of contact by February 15,  2022.   Please e-mail me at mean_green_dan@hotmail.com ,

Rotary E-Club Helps Save the Planet

Rotary E-Club of Central Texas gave away 650 Virginia Pine tree seedlings as a effort to help save our world.  Rotary E-Club members helped give away the trees both in Austin, Bastrop and nearby.  Members of Rotary E Club, Bastrop Rotary, Smithville Garden Club and many friends and neighbors took seedlings to plant on their own land. Donations to Rotary E-Club foundation were suggested in order to continue doing good in the world.

“We want to make a difference in the world for our children and grandchildren,” Club President Joan Bohls said, “and protecting the environment is one of the very best and necessary ways to do that.  Trees serve as an indicator for the health of the air and the world around us," Bohls said.
