Rotary E-Club of Central Texas
Rotarian of The Month
 Andrew Walker

My name is Andrew Walker and I was born and bred in Philadelphia, PA. I am a proud father and pop pop (grandfather). My hobbies include traveling, reading, listening to music, and sports. I am a sports fanatic and a five for five Philadelphia sports fan (Sixers, Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and Union). I like to consider myself an amateur genealogist. I am the oldest of three on my mother’s side and the youngest of three on my father’s side.  I graduated high school valedictorian and a Who’s Who Among American High School Students in 1996. I then attended college on a Presidential scholarship.

In college I majored in finance but ultimately wound up working in the technology field. I’ve held several positions in technology throughout a 13-year career and am currently focused on cybersecurity/project management. I’ve also been blessed to live in some interesting states since college including South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Texas. Out of the three states I’ve lived in since Pennsylvania (home state is always the favorite), Texas would be my next favorite by far. There’s nothing quite like Texas. BBQ is great too!

My Rotary journey began in college when I became a member of the Rotaract Club. That sparked my desire to become a Rotarian. Finally became a Rotarian while living in the Dallas, TX area and have since been a member of the Rotary Club of Austin University Area and now the Rotary E-Club of Central Texas. I strongly and truly believe that Rotary is the greatest service organization in the world. There’s no other organization that has the impact and reach that Rotary has. I love being a Rotarian and Rotary International. In addition to Rotary, I am also active in my fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Dues are Due
A new Rotary year starts on July 1 and you have received an email from our Treasurer (Tricia  Johnson at 7205 Cordelia Ct, Austin, Tx 78741.)  that Dues are due by June 30.    You may send all or half of your dues to her. ($230 for the full year)
If you would like to pay on line just go to www.rotaryeclubcentex.org and at the top of the page sign in.  Then also at the top of the page it says Members pay dues.  Click on this and the page will open and you can write in the box under "pay dues here" how much you want to pay.  Dues are $230 but you can pay half at this time and the balance in December.   Click and it takes you to a page that asks "Price per item" and again put the amount.  Click and then you will have the option to pay with a credit card or Paypal.  Thank you for being a part of our Flexible, Friendly, Fun Rotary Family.  We are doing good things together.
Thank you to Tricia.  Being treasurer is a very time consuming job and we are all very thankful for the work Tricia does.  If you have skills in this area it would be great to give Tricia a break and take over her job.  This was her 4th year as treasurer.

Congratulations to the Four Way Text Speech contest winners! L to R Katy Bennett, Hunter Foster, Lizzi Rose, Dan Leal.
Katy 1st place, Hunter 3rd place,  Lizzi 2nd
Thank you to all the Rotarians who make this a successful experience especially Dan Leal's leadership.   Other Rotarians who made it successful included Andrew Walker, Twyla Weaver, Betty and Adam Lara, Joan and Kent Bohls, Gene Davenport, Reid Luedecke, Linda Tyler, Faith David and  Frank Ivy,
This was our first time  and first in District 5870. We learned so much in doing it this time.   It was on zoom with waiting rooms, judges and Facebook Live,.  Hours of planning and trials went into making it successful.
We learned that  a team effort is recruiting high school students.  What we learned is that we need Rotarians to go to the school, meet a teacher (maybe the speech teacher) and stay in contact with that teacher as she/he recruits the students. We need to follow up with each student and help them learn what the contest is all about.  We need more of our Rotarians to help with this next year. It will be a fun way to connect with kids and a great service project for each of us in the Rotary E-Club .
Our next plan is to do the Four Way Speech Text with the Rotary Club in Sinkor, Liberia soon.

Better Friendship
One of the challenges of an E-Club and of the pandemic is building better friendships.  So the goal of Rotarian of the Month is to know each other better.   When you are named please forward me a picture and lots of information about you- like where you grew up, family, schools, career, hobies, Rotary service.  We want to get to know each other.  We would also like for you to do a "classification talk" at our monthly zoom meeting.  Let's keep working towards getting to know each other better.
