The Power of Setting Goals and Expectations in Rotary

On August 18, 2026, Rotarian Blanca Swayzer, President of the Rotary E‑Club of Central Texas, delivered an inspiring presentation on the goals and expectations for the 2026–2027 Rotary year. Her message underscored a truth that resonates across all strong Rotary clubs: clear goals are the foundation of meaningful impact.

Setting goals is more than an administrative exercise—it is an act of leadership. When a club defines what it hopes to achieve, it creates direction, unity, and momentum. Goals help members understand where the club is headed and how their individual contributions support a larger purpose. Expectations, in turn, provide the structure and accountability that keep a club moving forward with intention.

Blanca reminded us that Rotary’s ability to “Create Lasting Impact” begins with clarity. When clubs articulate service priorities, membership objectives, and engagement strategies, they empower every member to participate with confidence and enthusiasm. For 11 years, Linda Tyler has been a proud member of the Rotary E‑Club of Central Texas, carrying Rotary’s spirit of service with her wherever she lives. In Tucson, Arizona, Linda volunteers with the Neighbor to Neighbor Program at the Voyager RV Resort—a community-based support network modeled on the Neighbors Care Alliance.

Neighbor to Neighbor helps older adults in the 55+ community remain connected and independent by offering transportation, friendly visits, light home assistance, errands, and respite for caregivers. Linda serves primarily in transportation, ensuring neighbors get safely to medical appointments, therapy sessions, and essential errands. Recently, she shared that in one week alone she drove four out of five days, covering more than 125 miles. “This is my Rotary volunteer service,” she said.

Supported by the Pima Council on Aging, the program provides training, resources, and a strong network that allows volunteers to make a meaningful impact. By connecting neighbors with neighbors, the program reduces isolation and strengthens the safety net for older adults.

Linda’s commitment is a shining example of Rotary service in action—quiet, consistent, and deeply rooted in community care.

Rotarian Faith David, a dedicated member of the Rotary E‑Club of Central Texas, continues to lead a powerful effort that is transforming access to education for children in Liberia, West Africa. In a country where poverty often prevents students from attending school, her commitment to providing essential school supplies has become a lifeline for hundreds of young learners.

Faith’s initiative began with a simple but profound belief: back‑to‑school rituals matter. They signal to children that education is valued, that their future is worth investing in, and that learning should be a time of excitement, confidence, and hope. Yet for many Liberian families, the cost of basic school supplies—items we often take for granted—creates a barrier that keeps children out of the classroom.

To address this challenge, Faith has mobilized Rotarians, community partners, and donors to collect and distribute school supplies to both primary and secondary students across Liberia. Her efforts have already reached more than 800 children, equipping them with the tools they need to begin the school year with dignity and possibility.

In preparation for her upcoming visit to Liberia, Faith shared a powerful reflection:

“Back to school rituals are how we let our children know that education is important. It is expected to be a wonderful time for children, filling them with anticipation, confidence and motivation. Unfortunately, this is not the situation of many children in Liberia due to poverty.”

Her message underscores the reality that without notebooks, pencils, backpacks, and other essentials, many students simply cannot start or stay in school. By providing these supplies, Faith and her supporters are removing a critical barrier and opening doors to opportunity—one child at a time.

Looking ahead, Faith has set an ambitious and inspiring goal: to reach at least 500 additional children every year. With continued financial support and donations, she believes this impact can grow even further, strengthening educational foundations and empowering young people to contribute to the future of their families, communities, and country.

This project reflects the very heart of Rotary—service that uplifts, empowers, and creates lasting change. As Faith reminds us:
