September invites every Rotarian to refocus on one of Rotary International’s most transformative Areas of Focus: Basic Education and Literacy. Around the world, Rotary clubs work to strengthen reading skills, support teachers, expand access to learning materials, and reduce the barriers that keep children and adults from achieving literacy.
For the E‑Club, this month is a reminder that education is not just a global priority — it’s a local opportunity. Literacy is the foundation of economic mobility, community stability, and long‑term peace. When we help someone learn to read, master basic math, or gain access to educational tools, we are empowering them to shape their future with confidence.

How Our Club Can Participate
- Support Local Educators Partner with teachers, librarians, or school administrators to identify needs — from classroom supplies to tutoring support to reading materials for underserved students.
- Host a Virtual or In‑Person Reading Event Organize a read‑aloud session, literacy workshop, or book‑drive collaboration with a local school or community center.
- Promote Digital Literacy Offer basic computer skills sessions or help families access online learning tools. Digital literacy is increasingly essential for students and adults alike.
- Strengthen Global Literacy Efforts Contribute to Rotary projects abroad that provide textbooks, teacher training, or school infrastructure in communities with limited educational resources.
