November is The Rotary Foundation Month and our Rotarian of the Month is Gene Davenport, Foundation Chair.
Rotary E-Club President, Joan Bohls  was honored to do a presentation on Foundation to the Rotary Club of Sinkar, Liberia.  Rotary really connects the world. Rotarian Dr. Erik Svenkerud
Liberia.  Rotary really connects the world. Rotarian Dr. Erik Svenkerud lived in Nigeria many years ago and is friends of Rotarian Elizabeth Muhbab from Liberia.  It is fun to visit other clubs and see their traditions.  We all do the 4-way test but every club has  their  own traditions.  The Rotary Club of Sinkor has their Sargent of Arms call the meeting to order, they use the title Rotarian for each member (it gives them a feeling of belonging), a member has the duty of giving a thank you to the speaker which is a recap and words of  appreciation, a Rotarian gives words of inspiration, jokes, and they have a Rotary song.  They also are working on projects: Virtual Walk to raise money for polio, Crowd Funding which they expect to raise more than $20,000 and a Virtual Talent show with judges and prizes that participants have to pay to be in- both Rotarians and non - Rotarians.
The movie "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" found on Amazon Prime and Youtube tells the story of Nobel Peace Prize,  Leymah Ghowee and how the women of Liberia came together to get a peace agreement that brought an end to the Liberian Civil War (recommended as you Rotary program for the week).  So peace in Liberia is precious and we know peace is the heart and soul of Rotary and work of The Rotary Foundation.  Giving to The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund is a gift of compassion and generosity that  can change lives, fight disease, provide clean water and sanitation, sustain mothers and children, improve education, strengthen local economies and support the environment and in so doing help create a more peaceful world.
"The Book of Joy" an interview of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama discuss the Joy and relief from loneliness that comes from generosity and compassion. This is what Rotary gives us as we are able to make a difference in the world.  Each member of the Rotary E-Club of Central Texas has made a big difference in the lives of children in Nepal with the Global Grant to improve 3 schools and buy medical equipment for a hospital.  Thank you Rotarians of the E-Club!
Now again is the time to give to the Annual Fund.  For each member who goes to My Rotary, signs in and donates $100 to the Annual fund or sets up a monthly donation in any amount will be put in a drawing for these prizes:  honey form My Hot Honey donated by Tiesa Holloway, one night stay at  9E Ranch Cabins, Art donated by Gene Davenport's granddaughter who is an art major, soap from Boca Farms.donated by Erin Bocanegra and really cute  of Rotary tennis shoes donated by Betty Lara.  Don't miss the joy of giving and the fun of prizes!
